Frequently asked questions
Why do character counts matter?
Many platforms enforce hard limits: a tweet is 280 characters, a single SMS is 160, and search engines truncate meta descriptions around 160 and title tags around 60. Staying within these keeps your message from being cut off. This tool shows your count against each limit live.
Do spaces count as characters?
Usually yes. Twitter/X, SMS, and most platforms count spaces and punctuation toward the limit. This counter shows both the total including spaces (the number that matters for limits) and a separate count without spaces, which some word-count contexts use.
What is the ideal meta description length?
Aim for roughly 150–160 characters so search engines don't truncate it. Titles are tighter, around 50–60 characters. The tool flags when you exceed these SEO limits so you can trim before publishing.
Is my text sent anywhere?
No — counting runs entirely in your browser. Nothing is uploaded, stored, or logged, so it's safe for private drafts, marketing copy, and messages.
