Days Until Calculator

Count down the days, weeks, and months from today until any date

Target Date

Quick summary

Pick a date to see exactly how many days remain from today, plus the breakdown in weeks and months and the day of the week it falls on. It also works backward: choose a past date to see how many days have passed. The count starts from today in your local time zone, so it's ideal for holidays, birthdays, deadlines, vacations, and any countdown.

How to use this calculator

  1. Pick your event, deadline, or holiday in the Count down to… date field.
  2. Read the big number: Days Until for a future date, Days Since for a past one, or "That's today!" if the date is today.
  3. Check the line under it for the weekday the date falls on (or fell on).
  4. Use the Weeks, Months, and Total Days boxes for the same span in weeks plus days and in calendar months plus days.
  5. Reload the page on a later day to refresh the countdown, or press Reset to clear the date.

Frequently asked questions

How many days until a specific date?

Enter the date in the Count down to… field and the calculator shows the number of days from today, plus a weeks-and-months breakdown and the weekday it lands on. For example, counting from October 5, 2026, Christmas Day (December 25, 2026) is 81 days away — 11 weeks and 4 days, or 2 months and 20 days — and falls on a Friday.

Does it count from today automatically?

Yes. The starting point is today's date in your device's local time zone, so you never have to enter it. The countdown is worked out when you pick a date or load the page; if you keep the page open past midnight, reload it to get the updated count. Pick a past date and it shows days since instead.

Does the count include today and the target date?

It counts today as day zero and includes the target date, so tomorrow is 1 day away and a date one week from today is 7 days away. This matches how people usually say "7 days until". If you need to count both today and the target day, as some event or booking rules do, add 1 to the result.

Can I count the days since a past date?

Yes. Choose any date before today and the heading switches to Days Since, showing how many days have passed, along with the same weeks and months breakdown and the weekday that date fell on. It's useful for anniversaries, streaks, how long ago something happened, or tracking time since a purchase or appointment.

How many weeks or months until a date?

The Weeks box shows complete weeks plus leftover days, and the Months box shows complete calendar months plus leftover days. Because months range from 28 to 31 days, the months figure follows the real calendar rather than dividing by 30. For example, 81 days from October 5, 2026 is 11 weeks 4 days, or 2 months 20 days.

Does it account for leap years?

Yes. The count uses actual calendar dates, so February 29 is included automatically in any span that contains it. The result is an exact whole-day count, not an approximation based on 365-day years. The same goes for months of different lengths in the months breakdown.

How is this different from the date calculator?

This tool is a focused countdown from today to one date. The date calculator finds the difference between any two dates, including business days, and can add or subtract days from a date. Use this one for "how many days until…" questions and the date calculator for "days between X and Y" or deadline math.
