Quick summary
Enter an amount and pick two currencies to convert at the current European Central Bank reference rate — the same benchmark banks and financial media quote. Rates update once per business day and refresh live in your browser. Remember that a bank, card, or exchange bureau adds its own margin (typically 1–4%) on top of this mid-market rate when you actually transact.

Frequently asked questions
What exchange rate does this converter use?
The European Central Bank's daily reference rates — the mid-market (interbank) rate that sits exactly between the buy and sell price. It's the fairest benchmark, but it's not what you'll pay in practice: banks and card networks add a spread, and airport bureaus can add 10%+.
Why is the rate slightly different from my bank's?
Your bank quotes the mid-market rate plus its margin. A card marked 'no foreign transaction fee' usually gives close to mid-market; a debit withdrawal abroad or a currency bureau gives noticeably worse. This converter shows the mid-market baseline so you can judge how much markup you're being charged.
How often do the rates update?
The ECB publishes reference rates once every business day, around 16:00 Central European Time — so rates don't change on weekends or European holidays. For most planning and comparison purposes, daily rates are perfectly adequate; only active traders need tick-by-tick pricing.
Which currencies are supported?
The 30 major currencies the ECB publishes: USD, EUR, GBP, JPY, INR, CNY, CAD, AUD, CHF, and other actively-traded currencies including MXN, BRL, ZAR, SGD, HKD, and KRW. For historical rates on a specific past date, use our historical exchange rate calculator.
