Quick summary
Commission is sales × rate, but real plans add layers: accelerators (a higher rate above quota — enter the threshold and second rate), splits (real estate agents commonly keep 50–90% depending on brokerage), and base salary. The effective-rate output shows what you actually earn per dollar sold after all of it — the number to compare across job offers.

Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate my commission?
Multiply sales by your rate: $100,000 at 5% is $5,000. With a tier, split the sales at the threshold: 5% on the first $80,000 ($4,000) plus 8% on the remaining $20,000 ($1,600) totals $5,600.
What are typical commission rates?
Real estate: 2.5–3% per side of the sale price, then split with the brokerage. SaaS sales: commonly ~10% of contract value with 50/50 base-commission OTE. Retail: 5–15%. Insurance and financial products vary enormously — always model the full structure, not just the headline rate.
What is an accelerator?
A higher rate above quota, designed to reward overperformance: e.g. 8% beyond $80,000 instead of the base 5%. Some plans also use decelerators below quota. The tier feature here models a single accelerator — the most common structure.
How do real estate splits work?
The commission on a sale first splits between listing and buyer sides, then each agent splits with their brokerage — 70/30 is common for mid-career agents; high producers negotiate 90/10 or flat-fee arrangements. Enter your personal split percentage to see your actual take.
